Official: Vieira extends Genoa contract until 2027 after Inter links | OneFootball

Genoa have confirmed that head coach Patrick Vieira has signed a new and improved contract, which ties him to the club until the summer of 2027 following reports linking him with a move to take over from Simone Inzaghi as head coach of Inter.

“We’re happy and proud to continue this journey together with Patrick,” CEO Andres Blazquez announced.

Vieira, who replaced Alberto Gilardion as Genoa head coach on a contract until the summer of 2026 in November, has signed a new extension which will now see him through until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

“It’s been an intense period since I arrived in Genoa last November. We managed to guarantee Genoa’s survival in Serie A, and finished the season with pride and determination, as this club deserves,” Vieira said in an official statement.

“I’m very proud of what we’ve built and achieved together. After the last game in Bologna, we’ve always been in contact with the club and its directors to analyse the season and to prepare properly for the next one.

“I’m doing well in Genoa (the city, and the club). Extending our relationship was the most natural thing to do. It didn’t take long to find an agreement or to complete the bureaucratic formalities. Now it’s time to enjoy some holiday, but we will continue to work behind the scenes to prepare for next season.”

Vieira extends Genoa stay after Inter and Roma approaches

The Frenchman guided Genoa to comfortable safety in Serie A by the end of the campaign, despite previous threats of relegation approaching the end of the first half of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Grifone finished the campaign in 13th place, 12 points away from the relegation zone.

The Frenchman has attracted plenty of interest as a result, firstly from Roma before they appointed Gian Piero Gasperini, and more recently with Inter following the departure of Simone Inzaghi for Al-Hilal.

Despite approaches from Inter, the Nerazzurri have settled on Cristian Chivu as a replacement for Inzaghi.
