France international left-back Théo Hernandez (27) has joined Al-Hilal from AC Milan, both clubs have announced. Milan are reportedly set to receive a €25m transfer fee. Lucas Hernandez’s younger brother had initially hoped for a return to Atlético de Madrid, but the Spanish club’s financial limitations made a deal with Milan unworkable. The Serie A side were open to Al-Hilal’s proposal.
Hernandez leaves Milan after six seasons, having arrived from Real Madrid in 2019. He made 262 appearances – the most ever for a French player at the club – and scored 34 goals, a club record for a defender. He won the Scudetto in 2022 and lifted the Supercoppa Italiana earlier this year. Hernandez has signed a three-year deal with Al-Hilal. Théo Hernandez will wear the No. 19 jersey with Al-Hilal.
It remains to be seen whether Hernandez’s next step in his career will compromise his chances to be selected by France national team boss Didier Deschamps for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
