Luka Elsner is no longer Reims head coach following Sunday’s defeat to FC Nantes, the Champagne side has officially announced. The Slovenian manager joined Reims over the summer, making the move from promoted Ligue 1 side Le Havre AC. Despite a good start to life with Les Stadistes, results have dipped in recent weeks and they are winless in their last nine games in Ligue 1. Following their fifth defeat at home this season, against relegation strugglers Nantes (2-1), Reims’ hierarchy have pulled the plug.
“Stade de Reims and Luka Elsner have decided to end their collaboration, with immediate effect. The club would like to thank the Slovenian coach for his commitment during the seven months spent at SDR”, Reims’ statement reads. Deputy coach Samba Diawara has been appointed interim head coach. Diawara already oversaw three games in Reims’ dugout last season following Will Still’s early exit.
