Hoffenheim have confirmed the signing of their preferred replacement for the departed Anton Stach. Whereas Stach heads to the Isle to play for Leeds United, Burger trades England for the Bundesliga. Burger arrives in Kraichgau from Stoke City for a €5m transfer fee. Hoffenheim did not disclose the length of the 24-year-old’s contract.

“With his height and physicality, Wouter is not only an uncompromising tackler with a very good understanding of the game,” TSG sporting director Andreas Schicker noted in a club statement. “He also has qualities in attack thanks to his strong left foot. We’ve signed a box-to-box midfielder with extensive international experience.“

Burger spent three seasons in German-speaking Switzerland with FC Basel before joining the Potters on a €5m transfer in 2023. Stoke have fully recouped the funds they spent on the Dutchman in full after he made 86 competitive appearances for the EFL Championship side over the last two seasons.
