Borussia Dortmund’s capture of former Eintracht Frankfurt academy goalkeeper Diant Ramaj was officially confirmed late Monday. All previously reported upon details regarding the transaction proved correct. The 23-year-old signed a contract until 2029 and was immediately loaned out to Copenhagen.

Ramaj nevertheless returns to German football as a potential long-term-replacement for current BVB No. 1 Gregor Kobel. It once looked to be the case that the Stuttgart-native was in line to succeed German national team keeper Kevin Trapp at Frankfurt, but die Adler opted for a €5m sale to Ajax Amsterdam instead.

Ramaj made a total of two Bundesliga appearances under former SGE trainer Oliver Glasner, appearing once in the 2021/22 campaign against Augsburg and another time in the 2022/23 season against Freiburg. In both starts, Eintracht played to 1-1 draws.

It was none other than current BVB squad planner Sven Mislintat who recruited Ramaj to the Dutch Erdevisie in July 2023. Sky Germany reports that Mislintat has paid the same amount this time for the €7m-valued keeper. In May 2024, Ramaj achieved a career-peak estimated market value of €18m.

Diant is a young German goalkeeper who still has a lot of potential,” BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl noted in a club statement accompanying the signing, “Match practice is the most important thing for him right now – and he will now get that in Copenhagen. We wish him full success for the second half of the season in Denmark and in the Conference League.”
