Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool team news

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is expected to make huge changes to the makeshift team that beat Accrington Stanley 4-0 in the FA Cup this weekend.

That game saw the likes of Jarrell Quansah, Wataru Endo, Konstas Tsimikas, Tyler Morton, Harvey Elliott and 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha given game time. But Slot’s most-trusted senior figures will return for this huge game against Forest.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Virgil van Dijk should all come back into the fold, while Slot will have to decide whether to continue with Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back despite some poor recent performances and speculation that he could leave the club.

Joe Gomez remains out with a hamstring problem so Ibrahima Konate will continue to deputise alongside Van Dijk. Dominik Szboszlai could be ready to make his first Premier League appearance since Boxing Day after playing 45 minutes in the win over Accrington.

Forest almost have a clean bill of health with only Ibrahim Sangare sitting this out out as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been lucky to see his side avoid the injury crisis that has hit many other clubs like Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal this season, with consistency in his team crucial to their rise up the table.

The ex-Wolves and Tottenham boss felt confident enough to make 11 changes in the team’s 2-0 win over Championship side Luton Town in the FA Cup. It’s likely he will revert back to the same XI that beat Wolves 3-0 last time out.

Liverpool counting on Salah after slight dip in form

Liverpool are looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League after a disappointing 2-2 draw against a struggling Manchester United on 5th JAnuary, despite many tipping Slot’s men to run riot.

The Reds followed that game with a 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, the first time this season Liverpool have gone two matches without a victory.

They are still six points clear at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand, but that could soon diminish if they drop any more points. Forest could move three points behind Liverpool if they can shock the league leaders again — after handing them their only league defeat of the season with a 0-1 win at Anfield in September.

Liverpool will be relying on Salah to get them back on track, with the Egyptian star continuing his incredible streak in front of goal against United last time out.

Salah scored from the spot in that 2-2 draw, meaning he’s now been involved in at least one goal in the last eight games in a row. He’s scored nine and assisted seven in that time.
