France international William Saliba (24) has confirmed that contract extension talks are underway with Arsenal – though nothing has yet been agreed, with Real Madrid continuing to monitor the defender’s situation closely according to L’Équipe.Saliba is currently under contract with the Gunners until June 2027 and has made 134 appearances for the club across all competitions so far. While Arsenal have been active in the transfer market this summer, extending or reshaping several key contracts, no announcement has yet been made regarding the former Saint-Étienne centre-back.“I hope [the extension] will happen soon. For now, nothing is done but we’re in discussions with my agent and the club,” said the former Marseille loanee to AFTV on Sunday, transcribed by The Athletic. His comments come amid strong interest from Real Madrid, according to L’Équipe. The Spanish side are looking to bolster their backline despite having recently signed Dean Huijsen (19) from Bournemouth. Saliba reportedly remains high on their list – though other options, including fellow Frenchman and Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konaté, are also under consideration.“Our goal is to win the Premier League and we’ll give everything from the first match. We’ve brought in several new players who, I hope, will help us win the title,” said the France international on Arsenal’s objectives next season. GFFN | George Boxall
