Earlier this month, reports emerged claiming that newly-promoted Turkish club Eyupspor had shown an interest in signing Real Madrid veteran Luka Modric.

Eyupspor, managed by former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid star Arda Turan, have been promoted to the Turkish Super Lig for the first-time ever.

Ahead of their first stint in the top flight, it was suggested that they wanted to make some notable signings, with Modric believed to be on the agenda.

Eyupspor denies interest

However, amidst the rumours, Eyupspor president, Fatih Kulaksiz, has come out and denied those speculations, stating that any move for Luka Modric would be far from reality for the club.

“The news spread by some media that our Eyupspor is interested in Luka Modric is not in line with reality,” said Kulaksiz, as quoted by SPORT.

“I am even ashamed to deny it, but it makes us happy to be seen to have this ability. We have to be realistic.”

“The first step is safety and for the whole of Turkish football to see what we are capable of. Then, little by little, we will expand our objectives. You can’t walk without crawling!”

Modric could stay at Real Madrid

Modric’s contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the season which has sparked the rumours about his next move.

A return to Dinamo Zagreb has been talked about while the MLS is also seen as a possible destination.

However, recent reports suggest that Modric would be keen on remaining at Real Madrid for one more season, having proven that he still can make valuable contributions in the games against Man City and Barcelona last week.
