Ruben Amorim has shown he’s gutsy enough to lay down the law at Old Trafford by omitting Manchester United’s joint-top goalscorer of the season from the squad for four consecutive matches.
Indeed, Marcus Rashford has not featured for the club since December 12 in a 2-1 away win over Viktoria Plzen. He started the Europa League tie and played 56 minutes before taking to the bench, not knowing it would be his last run of action for over a fortnight.
Prior to his exile, the 27-year-old had notched seven goals in all competitions. Three came in his six appearances made under Amorim; initially in the coach’s first outing at Portman Road followed by a brace at home to Everton.
That’s why some fans have begun questioning Amorim’s decision, given that United are now on the back of three straight defeats in all competitions.

As well as Rashford, some journalists have initiated speculation that he’s not the only Red being phased out by the new boss.
Tyrell Malacia was absent from United’s 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday night despite being fully fit and available (as confirmed by Samuel Luckhurst), while Casemiro has seen his game time slashed in recent weeks.
The five-time Champions League winner watched on from the sidelines for five fixtures in December before making his return to action in a 27-minute cameo at the Molineux.
“Casemiro [has] not been exiled but he has played the same number of minutes in the last three games as Marcus Rashford – none. He is on the bench again today,” Simon Stone said on X/Twitter.
A portion of supporters have made the link between Rashford, £325,000 per week, and Casemiro, £350,000 per week, ranking among the side’s top earners on the books, prompting some belief that INEOS may be looking to part ways with the pair as they continue their severe cost-cutting measures.
