Scottish Premiership giants Celtic won't wait for too long in their quest to re-sign Norwich City striker Adam Idah, according to a report from Football Insider.

The Republic of Ireland international has been the subject of transfer speculation since the end of his loan spell in Glasgow, having enjoyed a successful time north of the border.

Playing a big part in helping his former loan club to win the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup last term, scoring the winner in the final of the cup against Rangers, it's no surprise that Brendan Rodgers is keen to recruit the Irishman again.

However, this won't be an easy task for a number of reasons.

Firstly, other clubs could potentially take an interest in him after seeing him impress at Celtic Park last term, with his impressive goalscoring record there unlikely to have gone unnoticed.

As well as this, the player still has four years left on his contract at Carrow Road and that has put Norwich in an extremely strong negotiating position ahead of the summer window, which opens on Friday.

Having cashed in on Max Aarons and Andrew Omobamidele in recent windows, the Canaries have shown that they are willing to sell key players and following their failure to win promotion, some of their current first-teamers could potentially depart in the coming months.

Gabriel Sara, Jonathan Rowe and Idah could all attract interest.

With the latter's contract situation in mind though, it could take a major fee for the Canaries to part ways with him and a recent development could make it even tougher for Celtic and the Norfolk outfit to agree a deal.

The Scottish side won't wait forever to get a deal over the line, with Rodgers keen to complete some of his transfer business during the early stages of the summer window.

Unfortunately for Rodgers, Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup is keen to assess the player in pre-season, which all but rules out an early-summer move away from Carrow Road for the forward.

With Thorup keen to give him a chance, the 23-year-old, who is a "top target" for Celtic, could potentially remain at Carrow Road next term.

With the two sides' stances in mind, it could be difficult for a deal to be struck and that could maximise the Irishman's chances of being at Carrow Road when the start of the 2024/25 season comes along.

Norwich City should bide their time with Adam Idah

It would be silly for Norwich to sell Idah now, with the player now likely to be high in confidence.

Although this window could be seen as a good opportunity to sell him for a decent amount, which could give them more power to retain the likes of Rowe and Sara, they are under no pressure to cash in on him.

He has shown his potential in recent months - and the striker could be a real asset next season.

If the Canaries want to be in the promotion mix again next season, they need to have goalscorers in their team and Idah is one of those, having thrived during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.

Assessing him in pre-season is a good move and if he impresses, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him become a regular starter next term.
