Norwich City and West Brom have both eased the pressure on their position within the play-off places.

The pair both look set to earn a chance at Premier League promotion in the post-season shootout.

The gap to seventh place Hull City is now six points, with the Tigers having just three games left.

Coventry City in eighth are 12 behind with four to go, meaning it will take a big slip up from the fifth and sixth place sides to lose their grip on a top six spot.

The Sky Blues take on Hull on Wednesday evening in a game that could effectively eliminate both from contention with a draw anyway.

This is a great position for the Canaries and Baggies to be in going into the final two games, giving them a bit of leeway to potentially recharge ahead of these final crucial games.

This is especially important as it can also allow players the time to heal any potential injury concerns or knocks, and ready themselves for the test of a two-legged knockout tie.

The same cannot be said for the current sides looking most likely to finish third and fourth.

Southampton’s place in fourth is looking quite secure at this point, with Russell Martin’s side dropping a horrendous performance midweek to lose 5-0 to league leaders Leicester City.

Meanwhile, Leeds United currently occupy second but sit just one point ahead of Ipswich Town and have played a game more.

And the injury issues are piling up at both clubs as they suffer under the stress of a fight for automatic promotion.

Dan James is the latest Leeds star to receive an injury, with a muscle issue set to keep him out of this weekend’s important clash with QPR, and it is unclear if he will play again this term.

The Wales international has been crucial for the Whites, and will be a big loss to Daniel Farke’s team.

He joins an injury list containing the likes of Pascal Struijk and Connor Roberts as we head into the final two games.

Given their fight with Ipswich, that list could continue to grow as they push to overcome the Tractor Boys.

Rivals Southampton have also been hit with numerous important absences, even including goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.

Stuart Armstrong is also set to miss the end of the campaign, with Ross Stewart and Flynn Downes fitness doubts going into the play-offs.

West Brom and Norwich both now have a couple extra weeks to prepare for their fixtures with the third and fourth place teams.

Injuries have hampered both sides at times this campaign, with the likes of Josh Sargent, Jon Rowe, Matt Phillips and Josh Maja all missing time for their respective teams.

But both clubs have a relatively strong bill of health at the moment, and should prioritise keeping it that way as best they can over the next two weeks.

At their best, both Norwich and West Brom can beat absolutely anyone in the division, so they will both fancy their chances of fighting for promotion to the Premier League.

While they are some way off the top two themselves, they have still managed their campaign quite well and could now time it just right to peak at the exact right moment and clinch a place in the top flight.
