North Korea net nine at FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup

North Korea have scored 15 goals in two FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup following last night’s nine against Costa Rica.

Group E:  Japan 4-1 Ghana, Austria 3-1 New Zealand

Group F:  North Korea 9-0 Costa Rica, Netherlands 3-3 Argentina

Japan and Ghana both added to opening wins in Group E, the former defeating Ghana 4-1 to lead the table on goal-difference. Chinari Sasai and Manaka Matsukubo scored at the end of the first half for Japan, Miku Hayama and Miyu Matsunaga extending the lead before Ghana’s late penalty.

Austria were 3-1 winners over New Zealand, Sarah Gutman striking twice in the first minutes. Valentina Madi made it 3-0, Milly Clegg replied late on.

North Korea lead Group F and had six different goalscorers as they overcame Costa Rica, one of whom scored in the first eight minutes along with an own-goal.

Netherlands moved onto four points after sharing six goals with Argentina, who had trailed 3-1. Veerle Buurman, Bo van Egmond and Robine Lacroix netted for the Dutch, Evelyn Acuna pulled one back to make it 2-1 and Serena Rodriguez’s second-half brace tied the match.
