Cardiff City are on the hunt for a new manager ahead of their first League One campaign in over 20 years.

The Bluebirds tried to pry Nathan Jones away from Charlton; however, the Addicks’ boss has elected to remain in his current position.

Jack Wilshere has been linked to the likes of Plymouth Argyle as he looks to secure his first permanent role as a first-team manager.

The 33-year-old is highly rated within the game, having spent two years learning his trade at Arsenal, before taking over from Johannes Hoff Thorup at Norwich City to close out last season.

However, Football League World’s Cardiff City fan pundit, Matt Hall, wouldn’t be too keen if the Bluebirds decide to join the hunt for Wilshere this summer.

Cardiff City advised to avoid Jack Wilshere appointment

“I wouldn't take Jack Wilshere as manager,” stated Matt. “And not because of his lack of experience. Personally, I'm of the view that experience is nice but not necessary. We're seeing within the EFL now that quite a lot of younger managers are getting involved.

“Mid-season younger manager appointments don't tend to work out well, but I do think this is the time where we can have a bit of a reset. We've got a full pre-season to go.

“My reason for not wanting Jack Wilshere is quite a simple one. I would rather have Aaron Ramsey. What sets Ramsey and Wilshere apart is Ramsey’s connection to Cardiff City. He has got that bond with the fans, which buys him time. Fans would still have that excitement about Ramsey and forget his lack of experience because of the confidence we'd have in him.

“I think Ramsey would seriously benefit if we could get, a Des Buckingham for example. If Ramsey could be the assistant to Des Buckingham, he may be someone who could take over naturally in two years. In a similar fashion as Craig Bellamy, working with Vincent Kompany for two seasons and then moving on to be the Wales manager.

“I think that's a suitable and nice progression path for him that would take Ramsey to where he's about 36, 37. He would be near the end of his footballing career then and be at a better age to take on the management job. But Wilshere is a no from me.”

Experience may prove necessary for Cardiff City next season

Although the temptation to take a risk on an exciting young manager such as Wilshere is always there, the Bluebirds find themselves in new territory.

It is crucial for the club to return to the Championship as soon as possible, and an experienced head could be needed to guide Cardiff through this difficult period.

A team of their stature would be expected to fight at the sharp end of the third-tier immediately, and a young manager may struggle to cope with the pressure if things started to go pear-shaped.

Ramsey has moved to Mexican top-flight outfit Pumas UNAM, which rules him out of taking over as Cardiff boss.

Wilshere could prove to be one of the nation’s most exciting young managers in years to come, but a gamble on youth may be one the Bluebirds can’t afford to take at this moment in time.
