Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is set to return to the club with his move to Bayern Munich now 100% off, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Blues had agreed to loan Jackson to Bayern for the 2025/26 season. They would have paid €15 million for his services, and the deal included a buy option for around €65 million.

However, Chelsea’s new signing Liam Delap picked up an injury in the win over Fulham that will rule him out for a chunk of the season. The West Londoners decided to backtrack.

Jackson was reportedly looking forward to being the heir to Bayern’s Harry Kane, but he now returns to a club that phased him out when they got two new shiny toys in the market.

The Senegalese centre-forward led the line for the club at one of its lowest points in recent memory and delivered 30 goals and 12 assists in 81 appearances under the bright lights.

The decision to let the 24-year-old leave was always a ponderous one, and the Blues are lucky the Bayern move did not go through before they pulled the plug.

What makes the situation even more frustrating is how easily clubs can toy with players’ futures without facing the same consequences that those players endure.

Chelsea’s U-turn leaves Jackson in limbo, and yet he will likely be the one questioned for his form or attitude when the player has been denied clarity and stability.

Fans often forget that players have entire careers and are humans, not just transferable chess pieces.

When a player like Alexander Isak pushes for a move, he is often portrayed as disloyal, when in fact he is simply reclaiming agency in a system that strips it away from him.

Clubs routinely renege on promises and shift priorities without consequence, but players are expected to accept it quietly.

If supporters want honesty from their heroes, they must also respect when those same players put themselves first.
