Nick Woltemade has been front and centre of a transfer to Bayern Munich this week, but Germany’s U21 star avoided any questions that arose of a pending transfer to the Bundesliga champions with his sole focus on winning the UEFA European U21 Championship.
“I’m really looking forward to the final and being on the pitch with the guys that I’ve been playing with for so long,” Woltemade told reporters gathered at the press conference. “This is a unique opportunity to win the title – that’s what we’re aiming for. It will be my last U21 international match, and that’s why there’s a lot of anticipation for the game.”
When asked about how the background noise affects him, the 23-year-old replied: “Well, I’m really looking forward to the game,” before a UEFA representative intervened.
Pushed for an answer, Woltemade added: “There are always things happening around you – that affects not only me, but other players as well,” before stating that the final is his only focus: “It’s the only chance in my life that I can win the U21 title, and I’d love to do that.”
Germany U21 head coach Antonio Di Salvo also had his say on the matter: “I’m concerned with 23 players and the final, and I couldn’t care less about anything else. We have our focus on preparing the entire team for this game, and nothing else matters at all.”
