There are a lot of expectations on FC Barcelona when they return to the Spotify Camp Nou for all of their sporting commitments. Among these are the expectations to see some of their most loved former players once again playing in the blue and garnet jersey.

This is true most of all for Lionel Messi, who is currently playing in the MLS side Inter Miami. However, in addition to the Argentine, some fans would also want to see his former teammate, the Brazilian star Neymar, once again playing in a Blaugrana shirt.

However, the possibility of Neymar’s return to Barcelona is quite remote. As SPORT has noted, this seems to be particularly the case after some statements made by his father, Neymar Sr., before seeing his son enjoy his first win since his move to his native country and his former club, Santos.

Appearing in an interview with a Brazilian TV channel, Neymar’s father was quite clear that his son’s stay at Santos can be longer than the 5 months that he has on his contract:

“Our project is not just for five months, even though my son’s contract is only for five months… We didn’t come here just for five months. We came to give Santos the opportunity to restructure during this time, to find allies who can help the club rise again. And many people have stepped forward.”

With these comments, it looks quite unlikely that Neymar will be free to join Barcelona or any other side by the time construction work on Spotify Camp Nou is completed in the coming few months.

But even if he was free, such a move would not have made a lot of sense as Neymar is far from his best level and the highly competitive nature of the Blaugrana forward line would not have allowed him to get any important role in the team.
