Newcastle United travel to Ipswich Town this weekend looking to build on the momentum of a positive week.
After thrashing Leicester City 4-0 in the Premier League last weekend, the Magpies booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals by beating Brentford in midweek. Despite a struggle for consistency this season, Eddie Howe’s team remain just five points from the top four and Champions League qualification.
Newcastle will need to address a poor recent record on the road, with just one win in theiir last six Premier League away games. However, Ipswich are the only team in the Premier League without a home win this season. The Tractor Boys are 18th in the table, though won at Wolves last weekend to lift confidence at Portman Road.
Newcastle remain without Nick Pope due to a knee injury so Martin Dubravka will continue in goal. Joelinton is also set to miss out this weekend after the midfielder picked up his fifth booking of the campaign last time out.
Sven Botman made his return for the u-21 side last week and played an hour, though Newcastle will not rush the Dutch defender back. Botman has been out for nine months with an ACL injury.
Callum Wilson will be out until February with a hamstring injury, while Jamaal Lascelles (knee) and Emil Krafth (collarbone) will not return before the new year.
Newcastle United predicted XI: Dubravka; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Tonali, Guimaraes, Willock; Murphy, Gordon, Isak.
Ipswich host Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday 21st December 2024. Kick-off at Portman Road is 15:00 GMT.
Ipswich vs Newcastle will not be broadcast live to a UK audience.
