The Newcastle United promotional video to help push sales of the new 2025/26 NUFC kit has been taken down.
Newcastle United apologising to anybody who was offended:
“We have been alerted to the appearance of a flag in our recent third kit launch video that could inadvertently cause offence. In response, we immediately removed the video from circulation and have taken steps to edit the visual from all future content.
“We sincerely apologise for any offence caused.”
The offensive flag is reported to have been based on the Japanese Rising Sun flag.
The flag is a traditional symbol of Japan and used in various cultural contexts. However, it also evokes strong negative emotions, including in many Asian countries, due to its association with Japanese imperialism and war crimes during World War two.
Those countries that find the flag particularly offensive include South Korea, where Newcastle United are heading to later this month for pre-season friendlies…
The offensive flag said to have been taken along by a fan for the video shoot, not supplied by the club.
Newcastle United then took out the offensive element and reposted the video. With the club stating:
“The reaction to our new third kit with adidas has been special but the launch video contained a scene that could inadvertently cause offence.
