Newcastle United are in talks to bring AS Roma striker Artem Dovbyk to the St James’ Park club, according to the Sun.
Newcastle recently signed Germany international striker Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart, but manager Eddie Howe wants one more striker as that has always been the plan all summer.
The Magpies are now looking to sign Dovbyk on loan with a view to a buy.
The 28-year-old Ukrainian cost the Serie A club £35 million last summer, and he could be available for £30m this time around.
Newcastle could do with such a striker given that he has been involved in 93 goals over the last three seasons.
The Toons target bagged 17 goals and four assists last term after leaving Girona with 25 goals and ten assists at the end of 2023-24.
Dovbyk was in the Ukrainian Premier League before moving to Spain, and he ended his last season with Dnipro-1 with 29 goals and eight assists.
The 6ft 2in hitman has the physicality and strength to hit the ground running in the English top-flight, and having him and 6ft 6in Woltemade in attack would be huge for Newcastle.
The Toons have been frustrated in their attempts to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa and his Wolverhampton Wanderers counterpart Jorgen Strand Larsen.
They have had bids rejected for the duo, and they are now ready to approach Roma with an offer to sign Dovbyk initially on loan, with the obligation to buy.
Newcastle have yet to win a Premier League game in 2025-26, drawing twice and losing the other one.
Their lack of striking power in the absence of the wantaway Alexander Isak has been brutally exposed.
They drew blanks in front of goal in their two draws and having Woltemade and Dovbyk or another striker in place after the international break will come in very handy.
