Over many years, I have been to numerous Newcastle United away matches.

Fair to say that the usual situation was to travel far more in hope, than expectation.

Newcastle United fans travelling to away matches and determined to enjoy themselves, whatever the result.

Which was just as well, as for so much of the time, the NUFC away record was woeful.

This now though is the Eddie Howe era and the travelling Newcastle United fans have never had it so good!

Don’t let this Aston Villa setback on Saturday get to you too much.

The Newcastle United record away from St James’ Park over the last 16 months reads:

Played 34 Won 20 Drawn 3 Lost 11 Goals scored 61 Goals conceded 50

Eddie Howe and his players have won 59% of matches away from St James’ Park in these 15+ months.

Whilst only 32% of the NUFC games away from SJP have been lost in this period of time.

Most recently…

The last 12 games away from St James’ Park have been extraordinary…

Played 12 Won 9 Drawn 0 Lost 3 Goals scored 23 Goals conceded 15

So these past four months, Newcastle winning 75% of these 12 games, losing in only 25% of them.

Indeed, since 7 December 2024, the only matches away from St James’ Park that United have lost, have been at Man City, Liverpool and Villa.

The Newcastle United away from St James’ Park record that has followed New Year’s day 2024:

Sunderland 0 Newcastle 3

Fulham 0 Newcastle 2

Aston Villa 1 Newcastle 3

Forest 2 Newcastle 3

Arsenal 4 Newcastle 1

Blackburn 1 Newcastle 1 (NUFC won on penalties)

Chelsea 3 Newcastle 2

Man City 2 Newcastle 0

Fulham 0 Newcastle 1

Palace 2 Newcastle 0

Burnley 1 Newcastle 4

Man U 3 Newcastle 2

Brentford 2 Newcastle 4

Bournemouth 1 Newcastle 1

Nottingham Forest 1 Newcastle 1 (NUFC win 4-3 on penalties)

Wolves 1 Newcastle 2

Fulham 3 Newcastle 1

Everton 0 Newcastle 0

Chelsea 2 Newcastle 1

Nottingham Forest 1 Newcastle 3

Palace 1 Newcastle 1

Brentford 4 Newcastle 2

Ipswich 0 Newcastle 4

Man U 0 Newcastle United 2

Spurs 1 Newcastle 2

Arsenal 0 Newcastle 2

Southampton 1 Newcastle 3

Birmingham 2 Newcastle 3

Man City 4 Newcastle 0

Liverpool 2 Newcastle 0

West Ham 0 Newcastle 1

Liverpool 1 Newcastle 2

Leicester 0 Newcastle 3

Villa 4 Newcastle 1

The remaining five Newcastle United Premier League matches see NUFC with the benefit of three home matches, only two away from SJP.

Tough away trips to Brighton and Arsenal. However, considering just how well Eddie Howe’s side have performed away from St James’ Park in recent times, who would bet against them picking up points away (Brighton have only picked up one point in their last four games and that was at home to relegated Leicester, whilst Arsenal may well be only having eyes on a Champions League final 13 days later, when NUFC play them), as well as hopefully a very healthy return from the games at St James’ Park – Ipswich, Chelsea and Everton.
