In a recent report, The Northern Echo’s Scott Wilson stated that Newcastle United are set to rival Arsenal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. It is believed that the Magpies have identified the English talent as a target for this summer transfer period.
Guehi enjoyed another solid campaign at Selhurst Park as he put in a string of impressive performances at the centre of Crystal Palace‘s defence. The 24-year-old found the back of the net three times and secured a couple of assists in 44 matches for the Eagles last season in multiple competitions.
The English defensive ace was a solid presence on the defensive end of the field and did well to make 61 tackles, 55 blocks and 28 interceptions in the Premier League. He even distributed possession accurately from the back after making 83.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via fbref.com).
Guehi’s current contract at the London club will expire at the end of next season which could give the Magpies a chance to land him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Guehi is a tough-tackling defender who can scan the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his side on the defensive third of the field. He doesn’t hesitate to clear his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and can play his way out from the back.
The English sensation has proven his worth as a consistent performer in the Premier League. Thus, he won’t take any time to settle into life at Newcastle if the Magpies manage to snap him up this summer.
Guehi would undoubtedly add more quality to Eddie Howe’s defence. He has what it takes to secure a regular first-team place at the Tyneside club next season.
At 24, Guehi has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Magpies to pursue in this summer transfer window. He might even help the Tyneside club compete across all fronts in the future. Therefore, Howe would be wise to try everything in his power to lure Guehi to St. James’ Park this off-season.
