According to a recent report from Fichajes, it has been learned that Premier League sides Newcastle United and Manchester United have both set their sights on Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

The 26-year-old Ukrainian has drawn attention in England as both clubs look to address growing concerns over their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.

Lunin, despite being Thibaut Courtois’ understudy at Real Madrid, has shown himself to be a reliable presence whenever called upon.

His performances last season and in the 2023/24 campaign during Courtois’ long-term injury absence helped maintain Madrid’s level in crucial matches.

While Lunin remains content at the Santiago Bernabeu, the lack of regular minutes has made him an attractive option for clubs looking to offer him a more central role.

Newcastle have made an inquiry

Newcastle United, fresh off winning the Carabao Cup, reportedly made an initial approach to bring Lunin on loan with an option to buy.

However, that offer was quickly turned down by Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are currently not open to parting ways with the goalkeeper, especially considering his steady rise and importance as a backup in a demanding calendar.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are monitoring Lunin as a potential replacement for Altay Bayindir, whose departure remains a possibility.

With manager Ruben Amorim keen to ensure depth and competition for Andre Onana, Lunin is being viewed as a serious candidate due to his experience and calm presence under pressure.

Although Lunin is under contract until 2030 and Real Madrid are not looking to sell, the interest from both English clubs is not expected to fade.

Should the pressure increase in the final weeks of the transfer window, the situation may evolve.

For now, though, Lunin continues to focus on Real Madrid, but the noise from England could yet reshape his future.
