Brentford have turned down a £40 million offer from Newcastle United for forward Yoane Wissa, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The bid, reported to be structured as £35m upfront with an additional £5m in add-ons, was instantly rejected by the West London club.
Sources close to Brentford maintain that no official asking price was ever communicated to interested parties and a £25m bid from the Magpies was also turned down a month ago.
Despite the rejection, the DR Congo international is reportedly eager to complete a move to Newcastle before the summer transfer window closes in 10 days.
Negotiations are expected to continue, with both clubs under pressure as the deadline approaches.
Wissa, who joined Brentford in 2021, has been a consistent performer in the Premier League and is seen by some as a potential partner or alternative to Alexander Isak in Newcastle’s attack.
