Newcastle United are expected to make some key signings in the summer transfer window. And one of the main priorities will be bringing in a new striker.
With Alexander Isak attracting interest from top clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool, and Callum Wilson set to leave at the end of the season, the Magpies must act quickly.
Wilson has had a memorable five-year spell on Tyneside. He has scored 49 goals and played a key role during Eddie Howe’s early success. But injuries have slowed him down, and with his contract expiring this summer, Newcastle are planning for life without him.
That means a new forward is needed. One who can play behind Isak and offer real depth to the squad. According to Football Insider, Newcastle have set their sights on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Newcastle links are gathering pace. The 28-year-old striker is also out of contract this summer, and he has rejected multiple offers to stay at Everton. This gives Newcastle a huge opportunity to sign him on a free transfer.
Given the club’s recent Financial Fair Play challenges, a deal like this makes sense. Newcastle need quality, but also value. Calvert-Lewin brings Premier League experience, physicality, and a proven eye for goal. When fit, he is a real threat inside the box.
The club have already made contact with the player’s representatives. And the plan is clear – sign him as a replacement for Wilson and a backup to Isak.
But not everyone will be convinced. The big concern with Calvert-Lewin is his fitness. Newcastle fans have already seen how difficult it is to rely on an injury-prone striker. That is exactly why Wilson’s role has faded in recent seasons.
Eddie Howe will be cautious. But if Calvert-Lewin is available for free and is open to joining, this could be a smart piece of business.
