Newcastle close to signing James Trafford

Newcastle United are edging closer to signing Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford according to reports.

Trafford had a superb 2024/25 season for Burnley as they earned promotion to the Premier League with the 22-year-old goalkeeper conceding just 16 goals in 45 Championship games.

Personal terms have already been agreed between Trafford and the Magpies as Eddie Howe's side look to complete their first signing of the summer.

Burnley had been holding out for more money from Newcastle with a £27 million deal having been previously rejected. However, an agreement is now nearly done between the two clubs according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Any transfer will also be good news for Manchester City who retain a 20% sell-on clause for their former academy player.
