The New York Red Bulls further invest in their tradition of developing homegrown talent. The club announced the signing of 15-year-old midfielder Adri Mehmeti on a contract through 2028, with an option for 2029. This is not only a bet on the future but also a clear show of confidence in the club's young players. Mehmeti is the product of the Red Bulls Academy and already features as one of the most promising names in American soccer.

Adri Mehmeti is well known to those who follow the Red Bulls or youth soccer in this country. The midfielder has been on a steep upward trajectory since joining the Red Bulls Academy in 2019. His crowning moment in 2023 was being part of the Red Bulls U-15 squad that won the MLS NEXT Cup, a historic victory for the club.

Consistent performances brought attention his way. In 2024, Mehmeti moved up to New York Red Bulls II, the club's MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, where he made 15 appearances and totaled 687 minutes on the pitch. His first professional assist came in August during a thrilling 4-3 victory over Chicago Fire FC II, which showed his vision and technical ability, even against tougher competition.

The New York Red Bulls have a long tradition of nurturing talent from their academy. Mehmeti is the 35th homegrown player signed in the franchise's history, a number that reinforces the club's philosophy of investing in its own promising stars. At 15 years and 239 days, he also becomes the third-youngest homegrown signing, a milestone that brings both recognition and responsibility.

Red Bulls sporting director Julian de Guzman praised Mehmeti’s progress and his growth over the past season: “Adri is an exceptional young midfielder who has shown tremendous progress with New York Red Bulls II last season. He’s a great person both on and off the field, and we’re excited to add him to our roster.”

This trust extends to first-team coach Sandro Schwarz, who has already monitored Mehmeti’s development closely and is enthusiastic about the young player’s potential. “Adri has put in strong performances with New York Red Bulls II, as well as in first-team training. He’s a talented young player, and we’re eager to help him continue his development with us.”

US youth national team and international projection

Beyond his solid performances at club level, Mehmeti is also developing his international presence. The midfielder has already represented the United States U-15 national team, earning seven caps and scoring one goal. His talent hasn't gone unnoticed in Europe either, as he's also been called up to Albania's U-15 squad, making three appearances and scoring another goal.
