Leicester City value Bilal El Khannouss at £35m after easing their PSR concerns, with Crystal Palace no longer pursuing the player.
Crystal Palace’s move for Bilal El Khannouss has ‘collapsed’, with Leicester City now demanding £35m for the attacking midfielder after easing their PSR concerns.
The 21-year-old joined the Foxes from Genk last year, and he was a rare positive in a disappointing campaign for Leicester as they were relegated from the Premier League.
El Khannouss’ performances, along with his potential, mean there has been plenty of speculation surrounding the player this summer, and recent reports stated Palace were tracking the Moroccan international to replace Eberechi Eze.
With Leicester’s well-documented PSR issues, which could bring a points deduction, there was a belief that a deal could be done during this transfer window.
However, with James Justin having joined Leeds United, and Kasey McAteer having signed for Ipswich, journalist Rob Dorsett explained that Leicester are now under no pressure to cash in for PSR purposes.
As a result, he claims that Leicester now value El Khannouss at £35m, which is seemingly more than Palace are willing to pay, as he adds that their pursuit of the youngster is now over, with the Londoners now closing in on the signing of Yeremy Pino from Villarreal.
This is a positive for Leicester, as all connected to the club recognise the talent that El Khannouss has, and the reality is that he does have the ability to play at a higher level.
But, the Foxes paid a significant sum to bring him to the East Midlands, and with three years left on his contract, they are under no pressure to sell after the recent departures.
So, they must stand firm on their valuation, and if El Khannous sticks around beyond the transfer deadline, it will be a major boost to Marti Cifuentes, who will then look to integrate the player back into the XI.
Of course, things can change quickly in the window, and several other clubs have been linked with El Khannouss at different points in the past few weeks, so there is no guarantee that he will stay.
Ultimately, we will see over the next six days, and if Leicester do cash in on their star man, they must have replacements lined up, as El Khannouss will be missed, as few in the Championship can match him when it comes to his technical ability and creativity.
