New favourites emerge in race for Man United target Emiliano Martinez

Manchester United’s hunt for a new goalkeeper this window has taken a rather surprising turn.

Andre Onana was culpable for major errors last season, and his pre-season injury has meant Ruben Amorim needs a replacement badly.

The problem is that with the Cameroonian injured, no teams have come forward with a concrete offer, and thus, INEOS do not have the funds to pursue a big-money keeper.

Which is why a move for Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa did not work out, with the Red Devils’ loan offer swiftly rebuffed.

United have failed in Emiliano Martinez race

And now, Paris Saint-Germain, who are about to lose their rock at the back, Gianluigi Donnarumma, have their eyes on the World Cup winner as replacement.

The team from Birmingham will demand £30 million and there has been contact between both clubs. The Champions League winners are also monitoring Lucas Chevalier.

As for Donnarumma, he is a target for the 20-time English league champions, but whether they can win the race remains to be seen, especially as there are plenty of clubs in the race.

“Paris Saint-Germain are readying a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as Man United try to complete the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma, sources have told Football Insider.

PSG ready to take advantage

“United have registered their interest in the Italian international as they work on signing a new keeper, having been handed a major setback following Andre Onana‘s injury.

“The Premier League giants also have a longstanding interest in Martinez, but talks have not progressed. It is understood that Villa would accept a £30million-plus offer for their shot-stopper as they need a big-money sale to free up funds for new signings.

“PSG have now turned their attention to the Argentina international and have made contact over a potential blockbuster deal.”

INEOS are unlikely to try and hijack, as they feel PSG’s current No.1 is a better fit. But money will be the main stumbling block. But this latest development shows how serious the Parisian side are about selling their top shot-stopper.

A move for Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp seems far more likely at this stage due to the costs involved in the operation, especially with Altay Bayindir expected to depart.
