Neil Warnock has given an emphatic verdict on Swansea City's promotion chances in the Championship next season.

Former Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock does not believe Swansea City have any chance of winning promotion to the Premier League next season.

It was a turbulent campaign for Swansea last season, and after a run of seven defeats in nine games left them only eight points clear of the relegation zone, the club parted company with head coach Luke Williams in February.

Having previously had a month-long spell as caretaker following the sacking of Michael Duff in December 2023, Alan Sheehan once again stepped up to take charge of the Swans on an interim basis after Williams' exit, and he made an immediate impact to help guide the Welsh outfit away from danger.

In fact, not only did Sheehan manage to secure Swansea's Championship status, but the impressive upturn in form under his guidance saw his side record a top-half finish, and after winning seven, drawing two and losing three of his 12 games as caretaker, the 38-year-old was handed the permanent job on a three-year contract in April ahead of the final game of the season.

Sheehan's appointment marked the start of what has been an exciting summer for Swansea, with big changes taking place on and off the pitch.

After Real Madrid and Croatia legend Luka Modrić was announced as the new co-owner of the Swans back in April, American rapper Snoop Dogg became the latest high-profile figure to invest in the club when he purchased a minority stake earlier this month.

Swansea have also been busy in the transfer market this summer, with Cameron Burgess, Ricardo Santos, Ethan Galbraith, Zeidane Inoussa and Bobby Wales all arriving in South Wales so far, and the club's new-look board have not been afraid to spend.

The Swans have not been known for paying big transfer fees in recent years, but they reportedly splashed out £5.1 million to sign winger Inoussa from Swedish side BK Hacken, while they are also believed to have spent a fee of around £1.5 million on midfielder Galbraith after his outstanding performances for Leyton Orient in League One last season.

However, despite the significant investment in the squad, it seems Warnock is not confident about Swansea's chances of launching a surprise promotion push in the upcoming campaign.

When asked on talkSPORT whether the Swans could potentially be among the promotion contenders in the Championship next season, Warnock replied: "No chance."

Swansea City will be aiming to prove Neil Warnock wrong next season

Of course, Warnock is a former Cardiff manager, and he led the Bluebirds to promotion to the Premier League during his time in charge of the club, so he is unlikely to have too many positive words to say about Swansea.

Warnock clearly does not fancy the Swans' chances of troubling the top six next season, and given that their squad is still short on quality in certain areas as things stand, he is likely right that they will not be able to seriously challenge for promotion, while there are still some question marks over Sheehan's managerial ability, despite his outstanding interim spell.

However, the signings of the likes of Burgess and Galbraith are big statements of intent from Swansea, and with wealthy big-name investors now on the club's board, it would be no surprise to see them make a few more eye-catching additions before the end of the transfer window.
