West Ham have launched an improved bid for Mateus Fernandes with the clubs now in talks.

Following the outright rejection of a £30m bid made by West Ham over a week ago, its now believed that a new offer could tempt Southampton into taking the next steps as they prepare to lose the midfield talent this summer.

Despite much speculation about Nottingham Forest entering the race for the player, it appears that West Ham are still very much the front runner for his signature during this transfer window, which Hammers fans have found frustrating to say the least.

The owners at West Ham have struggled to get the deals done as they would have hoped at the this stage, including the offloading of players, however the opening day humiliation at Sunderland has made the situation even more urgent.

West Ham simply must get the midfield issue addressed and getting Fernandes over the line would certainly make some steps in doing that.

Talks are expected to continue with West Ham hoping an agreement will be reached soon.
