Lily Murphy says she’s worked tirelessly to grab her chance in City’s senior team with both hands this term.
The Blues’ starlet was speaking on the latest episode of the Official Man City Podcast which will be available to watch on CITY+ this evening at 18:00 (UK).
It’s certainly been a season to remember so far for our Academy graduate who has already hit a number of milestones as we approach the business end of the campaign.
She was first included on our preseason tour of Australia before making her senior bow and penning a maiden professional contract with the Club before the turn of the year.
In total, she has made 16 appearances in all competitions in 2024/25, scoring twice and registering an assist while continuing to showcase her blisteringly quick pace.
Asked on the Official Man City Podcast what her highlight of the season so far was, Murphy replied: “Training every day with those types of [senior] players.
“They are world class players and they push me so much and the support they give me drives me a lot.
“It provides me with confidence quite a lot and I just want to do well for them as well and for my family, too.
“I didn’t [think I’d be this involved in the first team] to be honest, I thought I’d maybe go out on loan or maybe sit on the bench, be away from it. But I think I’ve tried to work really hard to not be in that position.
“I think I’ve taken the opportunity and there’s been a few injuries, but as a young player coming up you’ve got to take that [chance] and I think I’ve done it.”
Nick Cushing’s side have a minimum of eight matches remaining of the season, but find ourselves with a precious advantage heading into the Champions League quarter-final second leg at Chelsea and also in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Meanwhile, in the Barclays Women’s Super League, we’re embroiled in a fierce race for European qualification before the curtain falls on the term.
For Murphy, she’s looking to capitalise on further opportunities this season before looking to establish herself in City’s first-team in the years to come.
She added: “Short term, [to] just keep doing what I’m doing and if I get opportunities then take them and just try to be confident on the pitch, really.
“Long term, I guess just trying to stay in the starting XI. Keep working for the team, creating for the team and doing well on the pitch.”
