Manchester City fans have been handed their first insight into what Morgan Gibbs-White knows about his own future amid reported Etihad Stadium interest.

The Premier League giants are gearing up for what is expected to be a hugely busy summer transfer window both in the way of incomings and departures from Pep Guardiola’s playing squad following a difficult season.

Having failed to seriously compete for the Premier League title, UEFA Champions League, or the Carabao Cup, and finding themselves in a battle for a top-five finish and European qualification, big exchanges have been deemed necessary by club officials.

Much of the expected investment is set to centre around the midfield roles and particularly the need to replace Kevin De Bruyne – who will be leaving upon the expiry of his contract next month – and add legs and versatility into the transitional ‘No.8’ role.

AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz have been the two names most heavily linked with Etihad interest in the last few days, although City are also expected to be the frontrunners for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White when the market opens.

There has been little in the way of developments concerning the Englishman since the latter line first emerged in the media, while other outlets have suggested that the midfielder could command a transfer fee in the region of £100 million.

Now, speaking this week in an exchange with Nottingham Forest fans, Gibbs-White admitted that he ‘hasn’t heard anything’ with regards to his future and possibly a move to Manchester City this summer.

It remains to be seen just how seriously City could pursue a deal for Gibbs-White this summer, particularly given the finances expected to be involved in a deal and likely competition from Liverpool and Manchester United.

Many would also not expect Manchester City to secure agreements for both the Nottingham Forest star and Bayer Leverkusen’s Wirtz, particularly given the expectation that the Germany international himself could cost in excess of £100 million.

That is all before taking into account City’s expected pursuit of a new right-sided full-back, with Flamengo’s Wesley, Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso and Nicola Savona, and Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento all on a shortlist at the Etihad Stadium.
