The Rangers supporters are that starved of any form of success that they will believe almost anything. It’s a trait that’s existed amongst them from the days of following the original Rangers FC
Back then it was David Murray’s moonbeams that had their heads planted firmly in the clouds, but it seems that those moonbeams are still hovering around, and similar to back then it’s the Scottish mainstream media that’s planting those delusions deep in the Ibrox supporters’ minds, although minus the input of Dodgy Dave himself.
This has been evident as the proposed takeover of the Ibrox club by American investors continues to drag on. I’ve no doubt that there is interest of some sort, but it’s a totally different picture than the one that’s been painted by the SMSM, and the Rangers supporters.

According to both the proposed takeover is being pursued by the owners of NFL side San Francisco 49ers who plan to make Govan their next dynasty. This in turn is going to make them the richest club in Scotland with spending power off the radar. Sound familiar?
The reality is, well the reality is nowhere near what they think. Recent reports into the proposed takeover has seen a lot of backtracking being done, due to facts being laid bare. Those facts being that the 49ers have no interest in acquiring a soccer club and bankrolling them to success.

Yes there is some Stateside investment in the offing, and yes they have links to the NFL side, but they are pursuing this as an individual venture, similar to the investment they have in Leeds United. They have invested in the English side to make money not lose it. So plans would be similar for the Ibrox club.
And with the current American President seemingly on course to crash the global economy investments might start to dry up and shutters pulled down as the money-men look to see out the storm.

Even if the deal does go through there will be no splashing of cash, and like before they will have to tighten their belts in order to be a profitable business. If they believe that they are going to see a return of the reckless spending of other people’s money era under David Murray then they are mistaken. Moonbeams yes, they cost nothing, but throwing loads of cash around, no.
They will still lag behind Celtic in the financial stakes, and very much like on the park, they will be far behind Celtic off it.
