Maldini has emerged as a possible transfer target for Inter in recent weeks.

On the one hand, it’s an idea that would certainly raise some eyebrows.

That is because of the strong family connections between Maldini and Inter’s city rivals AC Milan.

The 23-year-old is the son of legendary former Milan captain Paolo Maldini. He is the third generation of his family to play for the Rossoneri.

But on the other hand, moves between Inter and Milan are hardly unheard of.

Moreover, on the pitch the move could very well make sense. Maldini is certainly a profile of player who offers something other than what the other forwards in Inter’s squad do.

Maldini’s form early in the season for Monza has certainly earned him some attention.

But Brianzoli CEO Adriano Galliani is putting the brakes on a lot of the speculation that Maldini’s positive performance and call-up to the Italian national team have aroused.

“I’ve never spoken with anyone about Maldini,” the executive said of the supposed Inter target.

“I’ve been speaking with Daniel every day, because he has a shoulder issue,” Galliani added. “But he should be ready for Sunday’s match.”

And as far as the purported links to Inter, Galliani insisted that “I’ve never heard anything about that.”

“Inter have never made any requests to us,” the Monza CEO said about Maldini.

Galliani said that the links between Maldini and Inter “Don’t exist.”

And then Galliani, formerly Silvio Berlusconi’s right-hand man at AC Milan joked “I don’t know, I’m a Milanista – leave me alone!”
