Mohamed Salah needed just 14 minutes to break the deadlock for Liverpool against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

It was a wonderfully crafted corner routine that gave Arne Slot's side the advantage against the reigning Premier League champions, as Alexis Mac Allister's low near-post delivery was impishly flicked into Salah's path by Dominik Szoboszlai.

Salah did the rest, firing home first time via a deflection off Nathan Ake's boot to give Liverpool the opening goal of the game for the 17th time in the Premier League this season.

The Egyptian has been at his absolute best throughout 2024/25 and his latest strike chalked up a truly incredible milestone. Not only was it Salah's 25th goal of the current Premier League season – 32 is his career high set in his debut season – it was his 30th goal in all competitions.

It's the fifth time Salah has achieved those numbers in Liverpool colours, in what is his eighth season at Anfield. He now looks set to challenge the 44 goals he scored in all competitions during his maiden year on Merseyside, when the club made it all the way to the final of the Champions League.

That's something Slot's current set of Liverpool players are hoping to achieve, having breezed through the revamped league phase with just a single blemish on their record – even that defeat against PSV Eindhoven was with a rotated squad that was simply seeing out the final matchday.

Salah has scored 31 goals in all competitions on two occasions, in back-to-back seasons between 2020/21 and 2021/22, while he notched 30 the following campaign despite Liverpool's drop-off at that particular time.

Not content with scoring goals himself, Salah also set up Szoboszlai's smartly taken second before the half-time interval – the 11th time he's scored and assisted in the same game during 2024/25. That's a feat that hasn't been achieved in any of Europe's top five leagues since Lionel Messi for Barcelona in 2014/15.

Whether or not Salah extends his Liverpool contract remains to be seen, but his phenomenal record in red well and truly speaks for itself.
