Salah is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement to join a foreign club in the summer

Mohamed Salah has declared this will be his “last year” at Liverpool, with that providing adding motivation to his push for a second Premier League title.

The Egyptian is out of contract at the end of the season and has repeatedly voiced his frustration that no progress has been made on a new deal.

Despite that ongoing saga, Salah has been in sensational form, with 17 Premier League goals and 13 assists to his name already, and it has helped ensure Liverpool are leading the way domestically and in Europe.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United on Sunday, Salah revealed this is the first season his desire to win the Premier League is stronger than the ambitions for Champions League glory.

“Probably because we didn’t celebrate the one we won with the club the way we wanted,” the Egyptian responded, with Liverpool unable to join their fans in celebration of the 2019/20 title due to lockdown restrictions.

“And also coming back here, it’s my last year in the club, so you want to do something special for the city. That was the thing in my head.”

Pressed on whether he really believes this will be his last season at Liverpool, Salah said: “So far yes, last six months. There is no progress there, we are far away from any progress. So we just need to wait and see.

“The thing in my head is, if it’s your last six months or year, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say I was concerned about the contract or stressed? I just want to say I had an unbelievable season.

“That’s in my head now. If I feel kind of distracted, I remind myself that I want to look back and say I had an unbelievable season. That’s what I want to do.”
