Manchester City have seen one of their all-time greatest players offered to Liverpool by an existing Premier League superstar, speaking during a new interview.
That concerns Kevin De Bruyne, who – after 10 years at the Etihad Stadium – will be leaving Pep Guardiola’s side upon the expiry of his existing contractual agreement with the club next month and may not feature at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
Unsurprisingly, both given the player’s world-renowned qualities and his own belief that he can still perform at the very highest level within the game, there has reportedly been interest in De Bruyne’s services from all of England, Italy, the US, and Saudi Arabia.
Many believe that given his young family will be at the very forefront of his decision, that a move to the Middle-East is unlikely, as such making clubs on the continent and in Major League Soccer the most likely candidates to take his signature in the coming days and weeks.
But while talk around a possible move to Serie A giants Napoli grows, one final attempt to lure De Bruyne to one of English football’s biggest clubs has been launched in full view of the public as part of a new conversation.
Speaking during a wide-ranging interview with Gary Neville and Sky Sports, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah was asked whether he had a message for Manchester City’s outgoing lead playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne.
“I want to tell him, Congratulations for your career’,” Salah told the Belgian maestro.
The Egyptian added, “He’s done a phenomenal job at [Manchester] City, and he was great for the league. I really wish him the best.”
And in a cheeky final message to the 33-year-old midfielder, Salah closed, “And we have a space for him [at Liverpool]!”
Liverpool have this season become the first club other than Manchester City to win the Premier League title in the last five seasons, after Pep Guardiola and his players made history by winning the top-flight crown four campaigns in a row.
City officials will be hoping that by getting their recruitment plans right and refreshing their playing squad in necessary areas, that Guardiola will have a roster on his hands capable of competing to a much stronger standard than they have this season.
With two games remaining, there is still no guarantee that City will feature in next season’s UEFA Champions League, and in order for that to happen they must secure a minimum of four points from a home meeting with Bournemouth and an away clash at Fulham.
