Bruno Fernandes is reportedly considering leaving Old Trafford after the 2025–26 season. His immediate priority is the 2026 World Cup with Portugal. If he waits until after the tournament, he can focus on the tournament and not worry about options abroad, besides also looking at options, should he want something outside of Portugal.
Fernandes has been associated with Major League Soccer and the Saudi Pro League. Earlier this year he turned down a massive offer from Al Hilal worth £200 million ($254,000,000 USD) , including €77 million per year for three years. Despite the huge offer he chose to stay at Manchester United, citing his commitment to the club.
But Manchester United’s recent struggles have been hard to ignore. The last Premier League season saw them finish in 15th place, one of the worst in decades. It was a poor season due to managerial changes, performance issues and defensive vulnerabilities. Fernandes himself has called out the squad, saying some performances were “lazy” and demanding reinforcements.
With one year remaining on his contract, there are increasing rumors that Fernandes is ready for a new challenge. Major League Soccer is becoming an increasingly attractive option for these European stars.
Players like Lionel Messi and Son Heung-min have joined LA teams and Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller has just signed with the Vancouver Whitecaps.
No MLS team has been linked to Fernandes as of yet, but several could be potential destinations. LA Galaxy historically brings in international stars, while New York City FC puts players in one of the most valuable clubs in the world. Columbus Crew SC may be investing to bolster their roster after losing many key players, while LAFC has continued to pursue European players in recent seasons.
A move to MLS would give Fernandes a new challenge in a competitive league and a big stage in North America , a new challenge for the Portuguese midfielder.
