MLS Injury Report Roundup: San Diego FC getting closer to full strength | OneFootball

One of the most impressive things about San Diego FC's run of eight wins in 10 MLS matches is that it has come despite the absences of a considerable chunk of manager Mikey Varas' core group.

But a look at the MLS Player Status Report for Matchday 22 shows that is improving.

A week after Hirving Lozano was re-introduced to the group, Varas will welcome back defender Paddy McNair and midfielder Anibal Godoy to his list of players available for Saturday night's match home match against the Houston Dynamo.

The Northern Irish center back McNair last played on May 31 in a 2-0 home win over Austin FC, missing five weeks with a lower-body issue. Before that, all 16 of his SDFC appearances were starts in the middle of the expansion club's rearguard.

Meanwhile, the Panamanian Godoy returns after his national team was knocked out of the Concacaf Gold Cup in the quarterfinals on penalties by Honduras. His last appearance also came in that Austin victory.

In total, the list of names on the availability report has decreased from nine to four for the Western Conference leader. But Anders Dreyer has yet to miss a start while making a genuine MLS MVP bid, scoring nine goals and assisting 14 more.

John McCarthy (upper body) out for LA Galaxy

The goalkeeper drama that has plagued the LA Galaxy throughout a miserable 2025 campaign will pause for at least one week with John McCarthy unavailable for Friday's home tilt against the Vancouver Whitecaps with an unspecified upper-body issue.

McCarthy has made 11 starts for the Galaxy in a back-and-forth battle with Novak Micovic where frankly neither has looked very good. However, none of those starts have come since May 18, with Micovic returning to the starting job for six straight games that he lost after three starts to begin the season in late February and early March.

As another option, the Galaxy still have J.T. Marcinkowski, who has 95 career MLS appearnaces, all for San Jose.
