Mitchel strikes winner for Alajuelense at Managua

MANAGUA, Nicaragua – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with reigning champions LD Alajuelense securing a 2-1 win against Managua FC in Group A on Thursday at Estadio Nacional de Fútbol in Managua, Nicaragua.
Carlos Hernández had an early look for the hosts in the 11’ with a powerful left-footed hit from inside the box that was just wide of the right post.
Alajuelense had back-to-back opportunities in the 17’ and 18’, but a shot from Anthony Hernández from the right side of the box, and a header from Santiago van der Putten, were both saved by Managua goalkeeper Alyer López.
Hernández came close to the opener for La Liga in the 21’ with another hit from the right end of the box that once again was met by a save López.
Alajuelense broke the deadlock in the 45’+2’ with a finish from Diego Campos to the top right corner.
Managua leveled the scoring in the 58’, with Carlos Hernández finding the back of the net from the center of the box to capitalize on a precise delivery from Juan Barrera.
Kenyel Michel reestablished the lead for the defending champions in the 79’, after breaking into the box through a combination with Creichel Pérez.
Managua will visit Alianza FC next Wednesday as action in the Central American Cup continues. Alajuelense’s next CCAC match will also be away at Alianza FC on August 21.
