The mayor of Milano Giuseppe Sala is still hoping to receive a positive answer from Inter Milan and AC Milan on the San Siro renovation project.

The two clubs were initially working on a shared project to rebuild a new modern stadium in place of the current Giuseppe Meazza ground.

Nevertheless, their plans hit several bureaucratic hurdles. Last year, local authorities placed a restraint order preventing the demolition of the stadium due to its historic and cultural significance.

This promoted the two Serie A giants head in separate directions with each looking to build its own stadium on the outskirts of Milano.

Inter identified the Rozzano region as their potential new home, while Milan chose San Donato.

Nevertheless, Milano mayor Sala is desperate to keep the two clubs within his jurisdiction. Therefore, he came up with a new plan to work around the restraint order.

Instead of demolition the San Siro, he’s pushing the idea of renovation that would even allow the clubs to play at the stadium during most of the construction phase.

Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala Expects Decisive Months For San Siro Renovation Plans

Engineering company WeBuild has recently presented their proposed project to the two clubs.

Therefore, Sala is currently hoping that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri will decide to embark on this project.

The mayor believes the next two or three months will be decisive on this front.

“Milan and Inter continue to work on their respective alternatives,” admitted Sala while chatting with reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of Casa Italia in Paris ahead of the Olympic Games (via FcInterNews).

“But I continue to defend San Siro and remain positive. However, we cannot wait for too long, so the next two or three months will be decisive.”

It remains to be seen if the two clubs would be intrigued by WeBuild’s project.
