Milan’s Primavera side managed to secure a spot in the play-offs on the final matchday, beating Genoa 3-1 while some other results went their way too. However, how does the play-off actually work?
Goals from Mattia Liberali, Maxi Ibrahimovic and Filippo Scotti were enough to secure all three points for Milan Primavera against Genoa earlier today. It was also enough to clinch a spot in the play-offs, as Hellas Verona lost their game against Monza (rather surprisingly).
The Rossoneri will now be up against Sassuolo, the third-placed team, in the play-off/quarter-final game. Juventus who finished fifth, meanwhile, will be up against fourth-placed Fiorentina. The top two teams, Roma and Inter, will enter the frame in the semi-finals.
In other words, while Roma finished first with a nine-point margin, they will still have to win two more games to lift the Primavera trophy. It’s something different compared to Serie A and once could definitely argue that it adds a bit more excitement.
It also trains the youngsters in a different way, as they get to challenge themselves over the course of the season, as well as in a rather condensed league title phase. It probably wouldn’t go down well to implement this in Serie A, but in this case it’s quite exciting.
