Torino midfield stalwart Samuele Ricci has reportedly agreed upon personal terms with Serie A giants Milan. According to Calciomercato, the 23-year-old has reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with the Rossoneri to switch to the San Siro in the summer transfer window.
Despite committing to a new contract less than a month ago, Ricci’s departure from Torino is a virtual certainty. Indeed, the Italian star has a host of admirers in Europe. In addition to Milan, Inter and Manchester City are also in the mix.
However, Sergio Conceicao’s men have taken concrete steps to win the race for Ricci’s services. Milan have earmarked the Torino talisman as a perfect long-term replacement for Sandro Tonali, who left the club to join Newcastle United in the summer of 2023.
Ricci’s playing style bears much resemblance to Tonali. Both players are excellent passers and boast noticeable leadership skills. Therefore, the ex-Empoli man ticks all the boxes for the type of player Milan are eager to recruit in the summer transfer window.
But Ricci won’t come cheap. Milan would likely have to allocate up to €30 million to convince Torino to sell their standout performer. Yet, the Rossoneri will probably try to drive the price down by offering several counterparts in a potential player-plus-cash deal.
Meanwhile, Ricci is keen to join Milan. He has reportedly chosen Conceicao’s charges over other proposed destinations, perhaps mostly thanks to the significance of the role he would have in the Rossoneri project.
