Michael Carrick is attracting attention from the likes of Leicester City amid Middlesbrough positive run of form
Middlesbrough are confident that Michael Carrick will not be leaving the club anytime soon amid links to the Leicester City vacancy and talk of a move to West Ham.
According to Teesside Live, Boro are optimistic their manager will not replace Steve Cooper at the King Power Stadium amid links to the position from Leicestershire Live.
Carrick has earned a lot of praise for his work since taking charge at the Riverside two years ago.
He initially guided the team to a fourth place finish in the Championship, missing out on promotion with a semi-final play-off loss to Coventry City.
An eighth place finish last year set the team back, but they are now once again in the mix for a place in the Premier League for next season.
Middlesbrough are confident that Carrick will not be going anywhere amid this new speculation over his future.
Leicester are searching for a replacement to Cooper after he was dismissed at the weekend following the team’s 2-1 loss to Chelsea.
Cooper was appointed in the summer, but has only lasted 15 games in charge before being sacked.
Boro are reportedly yet to receive any official approach from the Premier League side, but it’s believed that any offer will be turned down.
The 43-year-old recently signed a new deal in June of this year, which will keep him at the Riverside until the summer of 2027.
This has strengthened Middlesbrough’s position, as a compensation fee will need to be paid in order to convince the club to let their manager go.
It is understood that the Foxes are looking to appoint a successor before their upcoming game this weekend against Brentford, which also helps the Championship side’s position.
Carrick is believed to be focused on his side’s clash with Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday evening.
Tony Cascarino has also tipped Carrick to replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham, amid growing pressure on the Spaniard.
However, Boro are still optimistic that they can hold onto the Englishman even if the managerial position at the London club becomes available soon.
"You know West Ham fans, I think the owner is always trying to appease them with the sort of manager that would fit the bill,” said Cascarino, via Talksport.
"Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough were a bit flying.
“A big old win [Saturday], 6-2, top goalscorers in the Championship at the moment [on 29 goals].
"And they're what, lying fifth? I think they're fifth, yeah, fifth in the Championship and there's been a bit of a turnaround there.
“So he'll be an obvious candidate for someone like West Ham.
Middlesbrough’s recent form is a sign that everything is starting to click into place once again for Carrick.
The team have scored 15 goals in their last three games, winning each of those ties, and have moved up to fifth in the table as a result.
His first season at the Riverside showed a lot of potential, but losing key players that summer set the team back.
But Boro are now back on the right track, and their rivals in the Championship will be taking note of their recent performances, as they will definitely be a promotion contender if they can keep up this level for the rest of the campaign.
