Today, news broke that Inter Miami star Lionel Messi was considering a move to a more prominent league ahead of the 2026 World Cup and would not renew his deal beyond 2025.
The statement read: “Leo is under contract until the end of 2025. The reality is that both parties are interested in continuing the relationship.
“The necessary steps are being taken with the right mindset to make it happen.”
Romano also followed up with another post that alludes to Messi and his entourage being on board with the statement from Inter Miami.
Messi and co were eliminated from the Club World Cup following a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, exiting the tournament many felt they never deserved to qualify for in the first place.
Despite the round of 16 exit, Messi showed he can still play at the highest level with an exquisite free-kick against FC Porto.
He also created three big chances in his four outings, completing three dribbles per 90.
Messi posted the best dribble success rate at 70.6% (minimum of 15 attempted), completing 12/17.
He will bolster several top teams in Europe, but the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is reportedly happy to stay put.
His wife is happy in the United States (US), where she is the face of the jewellery company Tiffany.
His children are in youth teams, and the former Barcelona and PSG star goes to watch them regularly.
Messi might be reluctant to uproot his family and current lifestyle for a move back to Europe, no matter how tempting.
Following their Club World Cup exit, Javier Mascherano and his side return to MLS action this Sunday with a clash against CF Montreal.
