Lionel Messi has been back to his best for Paris Saint-Germain in the 2022/23 season.

Messi has scored 12 goals and recorded 14 assists for the French giants this campaign.

However, his future at PSG is in doubt.

Messi’s contract with the club runs out in the summer of 2023.

While he’s expected to extend his stay in the French capital, he is free to talk to other clubs over a potential move at the beginning of January.

Messi isn’t the only high-profile player that could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.

GK: David de Gea (Manchester United)

De Gea’s lengthy spell at Manchester United could be coming to an end. He has been named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year on five occasions. Still just 32, De Gea still has a number of years left at the top level.

RB: Hector Bellerin (Barcelona)

Bellerin, 27, has only made a handful of appearances for Barcelona since signing for the club last summer.

CB: Evan Ndicka (Eintracht Frankfurt)

Ndicka is a huge talent who has admirers from top clubs around Europe. Per the Evening Standard, Arsenal are interested in the 2021/22 Europa League winner, but he may extend his stay with the Bundesliga club.

CB: Milan Škriniar (Inter Milan)

Škriniar has been one of the top defenders in world football for the past few years. It would be a huge blow for Inter should he leave on a free transfer.

LB: Raphaël Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund)

Guerreiro remains a key player for Dortmund. The experienced defender helped Portugal to Euro 2016 glory.

CDM: N’Golo Kante (Chelsea)

Kante has had numerous injury problems in the 2022/23 season but remains one of the best defensive midfielders in world football when available.

CM: Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)

Kroos, now 32, remains a key player for Real Madrid. The German’s time at Los Blancos could come to an end, though, with the club stacked for options in midfield.

CM: Youri Tielemans (Leicester City

Tielemans has been a good servant to Leicester since signing in 2019. The Belgian scored the winner as The Foxes beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final in 2021.

LW: Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)

Zaha could finally depart Crystal Palace for one of England’s top clubs in 2023. The Ivorian has scored six goals for his side in the 2022/23 campaign. He is valued at €32m by Transfermarkt.

RW: Lionel Messi (Paris Saint-Germain)

Messi remains at the peak of his powers, but will he stay at PSG? Could he move to Major League Soccer? Or could he secure a dramatic return to Barcelona?

ST: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

Real Madrid will surely do everything in their power to keep the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner. Benzema is still a difference maker at 35 years old.
