A flag bearing the Totenkopf SS symbol, Benito Mussolini’s “expand or perish” pro-imperialist quote, the Rangers club badge and the numbers 936 was seen in theRangers end at Hampden on Sunday. The words ‘No Surrender’ were also written across the centre.
The 3rd SS Panzer Totenkopf (Death’s Head symbol) Division was originally made up of concentration camp guards and were involved in the massacre of British troops at Le Paradis in 1940.
The image was caught on television and should disgust every non-genocidal, anti-Nazi minded person. However, there has been no comment from the media, except from The Scottish Sun of all places!
Usually, the red tops are writing about the Green Brigade setting off pyrotechnics or Celtic fans telling people where to shove the Coronation. Yet, when it comes to promotion and celebration of Nazis and fascist dictators at the other end of the ground, they are silent.
Why is that?
I don’t believe that many Rangers fans would endorse this outright fascism, but nobody seemed to confront it and there is a section of their support with strange and hypocritical fascist tendencies. Will these same people be covering themselves in poppies in November? Will they feel that pro-Nazi sentiment is befitting of the quintessential British club? Will they continue to endorse the Israeli flag?
These disgusting views have no place in society, let alone at football.
