Former France defender turned pundit, Rolland Courbis, has pointed out that Kylian Mbappe is the biggest issue for the French national team during the ongoing Euros.

Mbappe, who is set to join Real Madrid after the Euros, returned to France’s starting lineup against Poland after missing the previous match against the Netherlands due to a broken nose.

Despite his best efforts, France only managed a 1-1 draw against Poland, finishing second in Group D, just one point behind Austria, the group leaders.

France, despite being one of the favourites to win the tournament, have been a major disappointment, scoring only two goals in three matches.

This poor performance has left French fans frustrated and unhappy with their national team’s showing at the Euros.

Is Mbappe the scapegoat?

In the midst of this underwhelming performance, Courbis has singled out Mbappe as the scapegoat.

This criticism comes even though Mbappe played a significant role in the first game against Austria, where he forced an own goal, and scored a crucial goal in the match against Poland.

“Mbappe is the NUMBER ONE problem of the French team,” said Courbis in a chat with RMC Sport.

“I’m not just talking about the mask, I’m talking about his current form for months. He’s still managing to score goals and it’s not bad but we have Mbappé at 50%,” he added.

Before the game, France’s head coach Didier Deschamps had explained that wearing a protective mask, due to Mbappe’s broken nose, would decrease his field of vision.

Despite this handicap, Mbappe still managed to score a penalty in the match against Poland, which is why the criticism of Mbappe seems harsh, especially considering the circumstances.

Playing with a broken nose and a protective mask is not easy, yet Mbappe has continued to show his skill and determination on the field.

His contributions, both in forcing the own goal against Austria and scoring against Poland, demonstrate his importance to the team.
