Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri would be delighted to reunite with his former Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne who is now a free agent.

Rekindling the Old Flame

The 34-year-old winger spent the bulk of his playing career at his hometown club, but he arguably produced his best performances with Sarri in charge between 2015 and 2018. At the time, he was part of a devastating attacking trio, alongside Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon.

From Napoli to Toronto

The Euro 2020 winner eventually left the Partnepei in favor of a Major League Soccer experience at Toronto FC in the summer of 2022. However, the Italian never truly hit his stride on Canadian soil, and has recently terminated his contract, making him a free agent.

Maurizio Sarri Calls Lorenzo Insigne

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Sarri has taken the opportunity to contact Insigne, enquring about the possibility of rekindling their partnership in the Italian capital. The source believes that the player would be thrilled to work under the guidance of the 66-year-old once more.

Nevertheless, it should be noted that Lazio are prevented from making any new signings this summer due to a transfer ban imposed by COVISOC. Therefore, the management will be hoping to settle their accounts by September to lift the ban. If they were to succeed in this mission, they would only be able to sign free agents, as the market would be closed by that point.

How Lazio Plan to Sign Insigne

Therefore, Lazio’s plan would be to strike an agreement with Insigne and bring him to train with his new teammates at Formello, before eventually registering him as a new player when they’re no longer hampered by the transfer block. Nevertheless, Pedullà warns Lazio about competition coming from Parma and Udinese who are also interested in the former Napoli captain.
