Tottenham Hotspur Stumble as Crystal Palace Hit Record Heights

Crystal Palace marched into North London and left with more than just three points—they matched their all-time Premier League points tally and laid down a marker ahead of their FA Cup final. Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, were left to reflect on a limp display that offered more questions than answers in the dying embers of a frustrating season.

Eze Brilliance Powers Palace Past Spurs

For Crystal Palace, this was more than just a derby win—it was a statement. Eberechi Eze once again showcased his growing reputation, scoring twice to cap off another electric display. His opener arrived at the stroke of half-time, a clinical finish from a Daniel Muñoz cross that silenced the home crowd and survived a VAR review for offside.

Moments later, Eze doubled his tally with a composed finish following a slick one-two with Ismaila Sarr, who had earlier seen his own strike chalked off for offside. That made it four consecutive games on the scoresheet for the England international, whose importance to Palace cannot be overstated.

“It’s another big moment for us,” Eze said post-match, though he hardly needed to spell it out. These are defining weeks for Oliver Glasner’s men, and the momentum could not be better timed.

Tottenham’s Defensive Woes Deepen

For Tottenham Hotspur, this was defeat number 20 in the Premier League this season—a new low in the modern era. Manager Ange Postecoglou rotated heavily after their Europa League semi-final triumph, but the changes only exposed the lack of depth and cohesion within the squad.

Dejan Kulusevski’s early injury compounded the misery, and although Postecoglou later said the Swede “should be OK,” the sight of another key player limping off will do little to calm nerves ahead of an all-English European final.

Spurs were second best throughout. They saw two Palace goals ruled out early—first through Sarr and then Maxence Lacroix—but even that fortune couldn’t spark them into life. Instead, their backline wobbled under pressure, their midfield offered little resistance, and their attack looked blunt without Maddison and Son firing.

Postecoglou has work to do. Spurs travel to Villa Park next, with the match moved forward to accommodate Europa League final preparations. But on this evidence, they’ll need more than time—they’ll need answers.

Palace Pushing for Historic Season Finish

While Spurs look towards damage limitation, Crystal Palace are dreaming bigger. With 49 points and two matches still to play, the Eagles have equalled their best-ever Premier League tally, first set in 1992-93 and later matched in 2018-19 and last season.

They’ll fancy their chances of bettering it too, with matches against Wolves and Liverpool to come. Oliver Glasner, who joined last year from Eintracht Frankfurt, has rejuvenated a squad that had stagnated. His pressing game, intelligent tactical tweaks and trust in flair players like Eze have reaped immediate dividends.

However, Palace’s success this season may come at a cost. Clubs across Europe are already circling key names: Eze, captain Marc Guehi, top scorer Jean-Philippe Mateta and promising midfielder Adam Wharton—who missed this game through injury—are all expected to draw interest. Glasner himself has been linked with RB Leipzig.

After losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich last summer, Palace will be desperate to hold onto their remaining stars. But before any summer shake-up begins, there’s the small matter of Wembley and a date with Manchester City.

Spurs Must Regroup Before Season’s Climax

Tottenham Hotspur still have a European final to prepare for, but they do so under a cloud. The mood around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is one of uncertainty: injuries, inconsistency and tactical disarray have all contributed to a forgettable domestic campaign.

They’ll need a response—at Villa, and then in Europe—if they’re to salvage something from a season that’s veered off course. Postecoglou remains defiant, but this was a performance lacking identity or fight, and Spurs fans will rightly demand more.
